Album Notes: Don't Care
Posted by Hudson Eakin on Thursday, March 19, 2009
I realize I've been slacking-off on these lately, my apologies. I'll do my best to get back up on the horse here and deliver like I said I would.
-----------
Every week I release a song I'll be releasing some album notes on it. Keep in mind that this is only what the song means to me and I don't want to have any influence on what the music means to you. If Endorphin reminds you of washing the dishes, so be it. If it reminds you of doing that crazy party you went to or makes you feel like a sumo wrestler is sitting on your chest, awesome. Keep that. The only reason why I write these is for the sake of curiosity and so that a couple years from now I can look back on this and go "Oh yeah! I remember now...".
Music is personal, and it's not my place to tell you how to interpret my work.
Enjoy!
-----------
Musically this song comes from a bass-line that I used to warm up to while sound-checking with Faster! Faster!. Originally I was thinking of making it a rap song, but not wanting to push the limit too-too much on my first EP I edited it to be a good ol' dance-rock song. The biggest inspiration for this song overall? The first time my Dad took me to Bourbon street when I was 10 and all the noise / chaos / debauchery that I witnessed there. This was my first real Mardi Gras parade, the first pair of breasts I saw that weren't on a computer screen, and the first full beer I ever had with my Dad. Needless to say, it left quite an impression.
Lyrically the inspiration for Don't Care came from a conversation I had awhile ago with a friend of mine about some girl problems he was having. I told him to "Fuck [his] problem." He looked at me hurt for a second and said "Geez man, if you didn't want to talk about it all you had to do was say so." I told him that that's not what I meant. To make a long story short, he was in a relationship with this girl in every since of the term relationship, but the only catch was that they weren't calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend. I told him to fuck his problem because I believe that, if it's in the presence of someone you love (and not just some random hook-up), than there's no secrets when you're naked and everything'll come out fine if it's meant to be. This song is literally about when life fucks you, fuck it back! If you get lemons then paint that shit gold and DEMAND some lemonade!
----
Lyrics:
(Hey)
Girl what's your name,
looking for someone to come and play a game,
(Hey)
Where you going now?
I'd like to hang out with my new favorite pal?
(Hey)
Maybe you're the type,
just looking for tonight
(Hey)
I can respect that,
Let's go to your fort, and let me test that
Hey Girl!
So fine!
Chorus:
I don't care if you don't care at all,
I don't even need to know your name,
I don't care if you don't care at all,
I just want to take you home with...
(Hey)
Are you busy?
Can I have a moment of your time?
(Hey)
I'd like to make you
Break you, give it to you all night
(Hey)
Girl what's your name?
Looking for someone to come and play a game?
(Hey)
I can respect that,
Let's go to your fort an let me test that
Chorus
